BerlinDiscoveries is our new platform dedicated to photographers and photographic artists based in Berlin.
BerlinDiscoveries serves as a platform that showcases the diversity of contemporary photographic practices emerging from the German capital. We are looking for photographic series or cohesive bodies of work in the fields of documentary, portrait, conceptual, or experimental photography. We are particularly interested in strong artistic perspectives, distinctive visual languages, and projects that critically engage with the pressing issues of our time—whether in urban environments, private spaces, or broader social discourse.
Berlin is widely recognized as one of Germany’s leading centers for contemporary photography. Several thousand freelance photographers and photographic artists live and work in the city. A significant proportion of Germany’s self-employed professionals in photography and the visual arts are based in Berlin. Despite this concentration of creative talent, many face precarious financial conditions, with annual incomes often well below the average across other professions. Project-based commissions, fluctuating workloads, and limited social security are common realities. At the same time, the increasing commercialization of magazines, galleries, and cultural spaces has led to a steady decline in opportunities to present photographic work.
Through initiatives such as SHOW PHOTOGRAPHY and SELL PHOTOGRAPHY, BerlinDiscoveries supports photographers and photographic artists in expanding their client base and connecting with potential collectors and buyers. In addition, programs for art enthusiasts and collectors aim to encourage the acquisition of photographic art and provide guidance on building a personal collection.
